Afghanistan and Pakistan agreed to an immediate ceasefire during Qatar- and Türkiye-mediated talks in Doha after a week of deadly border clashes. Follow-up meetings are planned to ensure the ceasefire’s sustainability.
The fighting erupted after Pakistan demanded Afghanistan rein in militants launching attacks from its soil. The Taliban denies sheltering militants and accuses Pakistan of spreading misinformation and backing IS-linked fighters.
Despite the ceasefire, Pakistan conducted airstrikes on militant camps in Afghanistan, claiming over 100 militants were killed, while Kabul said civilians were hit but ordered its forces not to retaliate to respect negotiations.
