U.S. President Donald Trump announced he will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest, Hungary, to discuss ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict, following a 2.5-hour phone call described as productive and candid.
The leaders also discussed post-war trade, and agreed on a high-level advisors’ meeting next week, led by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov said Putin emphasized resolving the conflict through political and diplomatic means, while Trump highlighted the economic benefits of peace.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban expressed support for hosting the talks. The announcement comes a day before Ukrainian President Zelenskyy’s visit to the White House, amid ongoing discussions on Ukraine’s air defense support.
