Organizers of the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympic Games announced that the opening ceremony on February 6 will be the most widespread in Olympic history. For the first time, the Parade of Nations will take place in four locations: Milan’s San Siro Stadium and the mountain venues of Cortina, Predazzo, and Livigno. This setup allows athletes from distant venues to participate in the ceremony.
Events will run from February 6 to 22 across Italy’s Lombardy and Veneto regions, as well as the provinces of Alto Adige and Trentino. Each nation will have two flagbearers who can appear in different venues, while host nation Italy will have four. The Olympic flame will also burn in two locations—Milan’s Arco della Pace and Cortina’s Piazza Dibona.
The ceremony’s theme, “Harmony,” symbolizes the connection between urban and mountain venues and aims to send a message of peace amid global tensions. Producer Marco Balich will oversee the event, marking his 16th Olympic and Paralympic production. A tribute to late fashion designer Giorgio Armani will also be included in the ceremony.
