China, France hold 27th strategic dialogue

China’s top diplomat Wang Yi and French presidential adviser Emmanuel Bonne co-chaired the 27th China–France Strategic Dialogue in Hangzhou on Wednesday.

Wang said that over the past year, relations between China and France have made progress through closer exchanges, practical cooperation, and growing multilateral coordination. He called for a more stable and forward-looking partnership that serves the long-term interests of both countries, emphasizing deeper trust, high-level exchanges, and cooperation in both traditional and emerging sectors.

Wang also urged France to help the EU maintain strategic autonomy and view China as a partner rather than a rival. Bonne reaffirmed France’s one-China policy and commitment to independent diplomacy, saying France opposes trade wars and bloc confrontation. He expressed France’s willingness to expand cooperation with China in areas such as trade, civil nuclear energy, science and technology, and new energy, as well as to strengthen dialogue between the EU and China.

Both sides also discussed the Ukraine conflict, the Middle East situation, and global governance reform.
