Second week of U.S. government shutdown: How much damage has been done?

The U.S. government shutdown has entered its second week, with no agreement between Republicans and Democrats in sight. The deadlock, mainly over funding priorities, is affecting over 2 million federal workers—750,000 furloughed and many others working without pay, including military and air traffic staff.

The shutdown is costing the U.S. economy an estimated $15 billion per week. Services are being disrupted, with delays in air travel, halted agricultural subsidies, and potential cuts to food, housing, and energy assistance programs.

Long-term impacts include delays in drug approvals, air route permits, and scientific research. Public frustration is rising, with only 33% of Americans believing the U.S. can solve its political issues.
