China is currently drafting its 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030), a key strategic roadmap for guiding the country’s economic and social development. President Xi Jinping has emphasized the need for sound planning to advance China’s goal of “basically achieving socialist modernization” by 2035. Key priorities include maintaining national security, adapting to global changes, and driving high-quality growth through technological innovation.
A major focus of the plan is the development of “new quality productive forces,” which involves upgrading traditional industries, fostering emerging sectors, and investing in future technologies. Xi has stressed the need for innovation, talent development, and integration of education, science, and industry to build a modern industrial system.
The plan is also being shaped through a people-centered approach. A public consultation gathered over 3.1 million suggestions, with citizens proposing improvements in social services, technology use, and community facilities. Xi urged officials to incorporate public input into the plan and stay connected with the people’s needs and aspirations.
