In 2025, China’s film industry has surpassed its 2024 box office total, reaching 42.5 billion yuan by early October. Domestic films dominate the market, making up 90% of ticket sales, with over 300 titles released this year. Major National Day releases like The Volunteers and Three Kingdoms: Starlit Heroes highlight the strong local output.
Chinese films are also gaining global traction, with Ne Zha 2 earning over 15.4 billion yuan worldwide and other titles like Dead to Rights and Shenzhou 13 finding international audiences. The industry is also boosting the economy through initiatives like the “ticket-stub economy” and “film + food” subsidies, linking cinema with tourism, dining, and consumer spending.
