South Korea, U.S. hold 1st meeting of working group to address visa issues

South Korea and the United States held their first bilateral visa working group meeting in Washington to address visa problems faced by South Korean investors. The meeting followed the detention of 316 South Korean workers during a U.S. immigration raid at a Hyundai–LG battery plant site earlier in September.
At the meeting, the U.S. agreed to create a Korean Investor Desk at its embassy in Seoul to support South Korean businesses. It also confirmed that Korean companies can use B-1 business visas or the ESTA waiver for tasks like installing or servicing equipment related to investments.
Both sides also agreed to set up direct communication channels between South Korean missions in the U.S. and American immigration authorities to prevent similar issues in the future.
