Israel steps up Gaza bombing, Rubio arrives, leaders meet in Qatar

Israeli forces have destroyed at least 30 residential buildings in Gaza City, displacing thousands, as U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived for talks. Israel aims to seize the city to eliminate Hamas, which faced an Israeli airstrike in Doha last week that killed five members and drew widespread condemnation. Qatar will host an emergency Arab-Islamic summit on Monday in response. Rubio emphasized U.S. efforts to free 48 hostages held by Hamas and to discuss Gaza’s reconstruction.

Rubio visited Jerusalem’s Western Wall with Prime Minister Netanyahu before holding talks. Israel’s recent strikes targeted over 500 sites, killing at least 40 Palestinians, while Hamas reported 1,600 residential buildings and 13,000 tents destroyed since August 11. Malnutrition-related deaths in Gaza have risen to at least 422, including 145 children.

The Doha summit, attended by Arab League and OIC members, aims to show solidarity with Qatar. Meanwhile, 34 humanitarian aid boats, including European Parliament members, set sail from Italy, Greece, Spain, and Tunisia carrying 500 tons of supplies to Gaza in the largest attempt yet to break the Israeli blockade.
