Poland accused Russia of carrying out an “unprecedented” drone raid after Polish forces shot down several drones that crossed its airspace earlier this week, damaging a house and a car but causing no casualties. Moscow denied the claim, but Warsaw said the drones violated its airspace 19 times and warned the incident was a deliberate test of NATO’s response. In reaction, Poland closed civilian airspace along its eastern borders until December 9 and called a NATO Article 4 meeting, while Germany pledged to expand its role in NATO’s Air Policing mission. The Czech Republic, Netherlands, and Sweden also summoned Russian ambassadors in protest. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte condemned Moscow’s “reckless behavior,” stressing that allied defenses had worked as intended. The UN Security Council scheduled an emergency meeting for Friday, as European officials warned the violation threatened continental security and tested the alliance’s unity.
