Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday congratulated Mohamed Irfaan Ali on his reelection as president of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a phone conversation Wednesday with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, stressing that China and the United States should work together in the “new era” to promote peace, prosperity, and address global challenges.

Wang said the two countries must follow the strategic guidance and consensus of their leaders to keep relations on course. He criticized recent U.S. actions and statements as harmful to China’s interests, particularly on sensitive issues like Taiwan, and urged Washington to act with caution.

Recalling that China and the U.S. once fought side by side during World War II, Wang emphasized that both nations now share responsibility as major powers. Both sides described the call as timely and constructive, agreeing to strengthen head-of-state diplomacy, manage differences, and explore practical cooperation to stabilize bilateral relations.
