China’s CATL, the world’s largest battery maker, unveiled its latest generation of electric vehicle batteries for Europe on Sunday in Munich, ahead of the 2025 IAA Mobility show.
The new “Shenxing Pro” batteries use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry and come in two versions designed for European drivers. The long-life model offers up to 12 years or 1 million kilometers of use, a maximum range of 758 kilometers, and only 9 percent degradation after 200,000 kilometers, making it suitable for long-distance travel and leasing models. The fast-charging version can add 478 kilometers of range in just 10 minutes, charging from 20 to 80 percent in 20 minutes even at minus 20 degrees Celsius.
Zhu Lingbo, CATL’s international CTO, said the batteries were developed for European driving habits, including higher speeds, longer vehicle lifespans, and reliable cold-weather performance.
CATL entered Europe in 2012 via a partnership with BMW and now operates EV factories in Germany and Hungary, with a third plant under construction in Spain. Tan Libin, CATL’s chief customer officer, said the company collaborates with about 90 percent of European automakers and has supplied batteries for over 20 million EVs worldwide.
