Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn has endorsed Anutin Charnvirakul as the country’s new prime minister, following his parliamentary majority win. The royal command was announced at the Bhumjaithai Party headquarters.
In his first speech, Anutin, 58, pledged to address Thailand’s current crises, promote transparency, and ensure an independent justice system. He also outlined plans to amend the constitution and dissolve parliament within four months to draft a new charter.
The endorsement allows Anutin to form his cabinet and deliver a policy address to parliament, formal steps before the government officially takes office. Anutin previously served as deputy prime minister and minister for interior and public health.
