U.S. President Donald Trump threatened new tariffs on the European Union after Brussels fined Google 2.95 billion euros ($3.47 billion) for antitrust violations.
Trump called the fine “very unfair,” saying it diverted money from American jobs and warned he would launch a Section 301 proceeding to counter what he described as discriminatory actions against U.S. companies.
The European Commission said Google abused its dominance in ad tech by favoring its own ad exchanges, harming publishers, advertisers, and consumers. It ordered the company to end the practices. This marks the fourth multibillion-euro fine the EU has imposed on Google in an antitrust case.
Google announced it would appeal. The issue highlights ongoing friction over digital regulation between the EU and the Trump administration, which has surfaced repeatedly in trade talks.
