Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi highlighted key outcomes of the 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, the largest in its history, attended by leaders from over 20 countries and 10 international organizations. The summit approved the SCO development strategy for 2026–2035, reaffirmed World War II victory outcomes, and expressed support for the multilateral trading system.
China’s Global Governance Initiative was emphasized as timely amid rapid global changes. Four new SCO centers were launched to tackle security threats, transnational crime, information security, and drug issues. A development bank was approved to boost infrastructure and socio-economic progress.
China also pledged new cooperation platforms in energy, green industry, digital economy, science and technology, higher education, and vocational training. Structural reforms included merging observer states and dialogue partners into full SCO partners, with Laos becoming a new partner, expanding the organization to 27 nations.
