Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Vyacheslav Volodin, chairman of Russia’s State Duma, in Beijing. Xi described China-Russia ties as the most stable and strategically significant among major-country relations in today’s turbulent world. He emphasized that advancing bilateral relations serves both nations’ fundamental interests and contributes to global stability.
Xi highlighted his May visit to Russia for the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory in World War II and noted that China will soon hold a similar commemoration for its own wartime victory. Stressing the sacrifices made by both nations during the war, Xi urged the two sides to deepen trust, expand cooperation, safeguard mutual security and development, and promote solidarity with the Global South for a fairer international order. He also underlined the importance of legislative cooperation in supporting the China-Russia strategic partnership.
Volodin, delivering greetings from President Vladimir Putin, praised the steady progress of bilateral ties under the two leaders’ guidance. He pledged that the Russian State Duma would strengthen legislative exchanges and cooperation with China. Volodin also reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to jointly commemorating wartime victories and building a stronger future together.
