China’s top legislator Zhao Leji met with Russian State Duma chairman Vyacheslav Volodin in Beijing for the 10th meeting of the China-Russia committee for parliamentary cooperation. Zhao called for the two legislatures to strengthen exchanges, deepen cooperation, and use existing mechanisms to support the broader China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership, which he said is stable and high-level under the guidance of both countries’ leaders.
Marking the 20th anniversary of the committee, Zhao urged both sides to expand cooperation in governance, legislation, and supervision, while also coordinating more closely in multilateral forums to defend WWII outcomes, uphold the UN system, and promote multilateralism. Volodin said Russia’s parliament is ready to enhance friendly ties with China’s NPC, support consensus reached by the two presidents, and expand cooperation in areas such as business, culture, and historical memory.
