A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket is set to launch Thursday night at 11:50 p.m., carrying the U.S. military’s X-37B space drone on its eighth mission. A backup launch window is available at the same time Friday.
The U.S. Space Force said the flight will test next-generation technologies, including laser communications and a high-performance quantum inertial sensor, to improve the resilience and security of space-based communications.
The X-37B, about the size of a small bus, has been in operation since 2010. Built by Boeing, it has previously carried out experiments for NASA and is powered by solar panels.
