Air Canada will gradually resume flights after reaching a mediated deal with its flight attendants’ union, CUPE, which agreed to have 10,000 staff return to work. The airline, grounded since Saturday, said its first flights will depart Tuesday evening, but full service could take seven to 10 days, with some cancellations expected during that period.
The agreement offers temporary relief for Canada’s largest airline, which normally carries 130,000 passengers daily. However, after eight months of talks over pay, pensions, benefits, and rest periods, Air Canada and CUPE have yet to finalize a long-term contract.
