Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad-Reza Aref said Tuesday that Tehran is open to direct nuclear talks with the United States if conditions are equal and mutually beneficial. Speaking in Tehran, he stressed that Iran is not opposed to negotiations but rejects any process dictated by Washington’s terms. Aref accused some Western nations of politicizing Iran’s nuclear program and dismissed calls for “zero enrichment” as absurd.
His remarks come after a violent June escalation, in which Israeli airstrikes on Iranian sites killed senior figures, prompting Iranian missile and drone attacks on Israel. U.S. forces later bombed three Iranian nuclear facilities, leading Iran to strike a U.S. base in Qatar. The 12-day conflict ended with a ceasefire on June 24. Washington has since demanded Iran halt all uranium enrichment, a condition Iran refuses to accept.
