Sweden has eased the process for legally changing gender on official documents. Now, individuals only need a medical certificate confirming that their gender identity does not match the one on their birth certificate. The minimum age has been lowered from 18 to 16, with guardian consent required for minors. Within a week of the law taking effect, 106 people had applied. The reform replaces the previous lengthy process that required a gender dysphoria diagnosis. For people like Jenny Leonor Werner, who waited four years for approval, the new law offers a faster, less burdensome path to legal recognition.
