As of July 17, 2025, China and Malaysia have officially implemented a mutual visa exemption agreement after a trial period that began on December 1, 2023. Citizens with ordinary passports from both countries can now travel visa-free for up to 30 days per visit, with a limit of 90 days within any 180-day period. During the trial, 3.8 million Chinese tourists visited Malaysia in 2024, making China its top non-ASEAN tourist source. China now has mutual visa exemption agreements with 158 countries and recorded 13.64 million visa-free foreign entries in the first half of 2025, a 53.9% increase from the previous year.
