During the ASEAN Plus Three Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the importance of deeper regional integration among ASEAN, China, Japan, and South Korea (the 10+3 countries) amid rising global instability. He highlighted the group’s achievements in crisis response and economic cooperation and warned against the threats of unilateralism, protectionism, and tariff abuse by major powers.
Wang proposed four key goals for future collaboration: building an integrated East Asia by opposing economic barriers; strengthening resilience through enhanced financial and food security mechanisms; fostering innovation to drive development; and promoting cultural connectivity through educational exchanges. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting the region with its own economic stability.
ASEAN ministers echoed support for the 10+3 framework, noting its success since the Asian financial crisis and its continued importance in addressing global challenges and promoting regional peace and development.
