China’s Offshore Oil Engineering Co., Ltd. (COOEC) has developed and commissioned its first seven-function robotic arm for deep-sea oil and gas operations. Mounted on a remotely operated vehicle (ROV), the arm successfully completed precision tasks like valve operations and equipment installation at a depth of up to 7,000 meters in the Pearl River Mouth Basin. Weighing 60 kilograms—35% lighter than similar global models—and capable of carrying a 125-kilogram payload, the arm costs 40% less than imported alternatives. This innovation places China among the few countries with advanced deep-sea robotics manufacturing capabilities.
