The 17th BRICS Summit will be held in Rio de Janeiro from July 6–7, highlighting the group’s growing role as a voice for the Global South. Now including 10 full members like Egypt, Indonesia, and Iran, BRICS accounts for 41% of global GDP (PPP), 40% of the world’s population, and 24% of global trade. Under Brazil’s 2025 theme, “Strengthening Global South Cooperation,” the summit will focus on health, trade, climate, AI governance, peace, and institutional reform.
BRICS has expanded both in membership and activity, with over 120 events planned during Brazil’s presidency, including business, academic, and ministerial meetings. With a broad range of working groups in areas from agriculture to youth affairs, BRICS has evolved into a structured, influential platform promoting inclusive growth and multipolar global governance.
