Russia has officially recognized the Taliban-led Afghan interim government, marking a major shift in diplomatic ties. Russian Ambassador Dmitry Zhirnov formally informed Afghan Foreign Minister Muttaqi, calling it a “historic step.” Both sides welcomed the move as a sign of deeper cooperation. Russia also accepted the credentials of Afghanistan’s new ambassador, following its earlier decision to upgrade ties.
