A new global alliance of over 40 cities was launched in Beijing on Wednesday to boost international cooperation in the digital economy. Called the Global Digital Economy Cities Alliance, it was introduced during the Global Digital Economy Conference 2025, with participation from cities across Europe, North America, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Latin America.
The alliance aims to promote multilateral collaboration on issues like digital infrastructure, cross-border data rules, AI ethics, and smart city technologies. It builds on Beijing’s previous initiatives from 2023 and 2024, and is supported by international organizations such as the UN and the International Telecommunication Union.
The conference, running through July 5, includes forums and themed sessions and brings together over 1,000 global participants.
