The 9th China-South Asia Expo opened on Thursday in Kunming, Yunnan Province, with participation from 73 countries, regions, and organizations, and over 2,500 enterprises. The six-day event features 16 exhibition halls, focusing on professional sectors like manufacturing, green energy, coffee, and traditional Chinese medicine.
Two South Asia-themed pavilions include nearly 800 booths, with India and Pakistan each hosting 140. Around 40 economic and trade events—such as forums and business matchmaking—are scheduled to promote regional cooperation.
First launched in 2013, the same year as the Belt and Road Initiative, the expo has facilitated over $110 billion in trade and supported 20,000+ enterprises. In 2024, China–South Asia trade approached $200 billion, doubling in the past decade with a 6.3% average annual growth.
Vice Minister of Commerce Yan Dong emphasized China’s commitment to deeper trade ties and cooperation in new sectors like digital economy, AI, green development, and biomedicine, aiming to build an open global economy.
