On China’s 9th Cultural and Natural Heritage Day, the country is highlighting how advanced technology is playing a key role in preserving its rich cultural and natural heritage. In Hangzhou, a smart canal platform is now overseeing the Grand Canal, integrating data from various departments to monitor changes and enhance protection efforts. In Xi’an, a digital smart cabin equipped with over 3,000 sensors provides real-time alerts on the ancient city wall’s condition, improving emergency responses and public safety.
Technology is also breathing new life into traditional crafts and archaeology. In Nantong, an intelligent robot production line is now used for tie-dyeing, increasing efficiency while maintaining artistic quality. Meanwhile, archaeologists in Qinghai have fully restored a millennium-old shattered gold crown using high-tech imaging and patented techniques.
These efforts reflect China’s shift toward proactive, tech-driven heritage protection, aiming to preserve and revitalize its history for future generations.
