China, Africa push implementation of FOCAC Beijing Summit outcomes

China, representatives from 53 African countries, and the African Union Commission met in Changsha to advance the implementation of agreements from the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). At the meeting’s opening, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his Congolese counterpart Jean-Claude Gakosso read letters from their presidents highlighting the importance of China-Africa cooperation.

President Xi Jinping outlined new measures to deepen ties and promote modernization, calling for stronger solidarity amid global instability. Wang emphasized the strategic role of China and Africa in the Global South and urged both sides to defend free trade, global development, and a fair international order.

Africa welcomed China’s continued support and the 10 modernization initiatives, voicing commitment to implementing the summit’s outcomes. Gakosso also condemned the use of tariffs and unilateral sanctions, pledging Africa’s support for China in facing global challenges.
