Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump held a phone call on Thursday, emphasizing the importance of steering China-U.S. relations in a stable direction.
Xi highlighted the recent successful economic and trade meeting in Geneva, calling it a positive step toward resolving issues through dialogue. He urged continued cooperation based on equality and mutual respect, noting that China is sincerely implementing the agreement and called on the U.S. to recognize this progress and lift negative measures.
He also stressed the need for better communication in foreign affairs, trade, military, and law enforcement, and warned the U.S. to handle the Taiwan issue cautiously to avoid conflict.
Trump expressed strong respect for Xi, reaffirmed commitment to the one-China policy, praised the Geneva deal, and expressed support for Chinese students studying in the U.S. He also welcomed future cooperation and appreciated Xi’s invitation to visit China again.
Both leaders agreed to have their teams continue working on the Geneva agreement and to arrange a follow-up meeting soon.
