To mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Myanmar and China, a special media dialogue was held on June 1 in Nay Pyi Taw under the theme “Walking hand in hand towards a shared future.”
The event was attended by Myanmar’s Deputy Minister for Information U Ye Tint, Ms Cao Jing, Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to Myanmar, government officials, media professionals, and invited guests.
One key topic of the discussion was the powerful earthquake that hit Myanmar on March 28. Participants highlighted how journalists from both countries worked together to report on the disaster, helping draw international attention and aid. Chinese media, in particular, were praised for their fast response and wide coverage, which supported Myanmar’s rescue and relief efforts.
The dialogue included three sessions on media cooperation during crises, reporting on recovery and development, and exploring new ways of working together in modern media.
Deputy Minister U Ye Tint called the 75-year milestone a symbol of strong friendship and expressed hope that media ties would continue to grow. He stressed that closer cooperation between journalists helps strengthen understanding between people in both countries.
Chinese Minister Counsellor Ms. Cao Jing noted that the Chinese Embassy regularly organizes exchange programmes, training, and study tours for Myanmar journalists. These initiatives aim to give Myanmar media a deeper understanding of Chinese culture and society.
Ms. Mo Xiaoxin, a reporter from the China Media Group Yangon Bureau, shared her experience covering the March 28 earthquake and participating in rescue reporting.
To close the event, media representatives from both nations joined in singing well-loved Chinese songs in both Chinese and Burmese—a symbol of shared friendship and cultural exchange.
