Iran’s Atomic Energy Chief, Mohammad Eslami, stated on Sunday that uranium enrichment is a non-negotiable right and a core part of Iran’s nuclear program. His comments came in response to U.S. demands to halt enrichment and a recent IAEA report criticizing Iran’s lack of cooperation and unexplained nuclear material at undeclared sites.
Eslami insisted that uranium enrichment is essential for Iran’s nuclear fuel cycle and broader technological development, and rejected claims that Iran lacks the right to enrich. He also accused the IAEA report of being influenced by Western nations and Israel, while asserting that Iran remains committed to international agreements like the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and allows IAEA inspections.
The report was released amid ongoing indirect U.S.-Iran negotiations, mediated by Oman, about Iran’s nuclear program and possible U.S. sanctions relief.
