At the inaugural ASEAN-China-GCC Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Chinese Premier Li Qiang called for stronger cooperation between China, ASEAN, and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. He proposed building a global model of openness, development collaboration, and cross-civilization integration.
Li highlighted the combined economic and population strength of the three regions—accounting for about a quarter of the world’s total—as a foundation for deeper trade ties. He noted the completion of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area upgrade and urged early finalization of a free trade agreement with the GCC to boost trilateral trade.
He emphasized the importance of open regional markets, free flow of resources, and shared technological and talent development. Despite being at different development stages, Li said the regions’ differences should be seen as strengths that can complement one another.
He also called for greater cultural exchange and mutual understanding to foster peace and inclusiveness, expressing support for initiatives like the Confucian-Islamic dialogue and the Global Civilization Initiative. Li concluded by stressing the need for unity in addressing global challenges and promoting shared development.
