Africa Day 2025 commemorates the founding of the African Union and celebrates African unity, liberation, and identity. This year’s theme focuses on justice and reparations for Africans and people of African descent, addressing historical injustices like slavery and colonialism.
Ambassador Osman highlighted China’s historic support for African liberation, exemplified by projects such as the Tanzania-Zambia Railway in the 1970s, which symbolized freedom and sovereignty. The African Union (AU) plays a vital role in coordinating Africa-China cooperation, including infrastructure and digital connectivity initiatives under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
Since 2018, Ambassador Osman has observed China’s development firsthand, noting lessons Africa can adapt to its own unique context. He emphasized the alignment between Africa’s Agenda 2063 and China’s BRI, both focusing on sustainable growth, connectivity, and industrialization.
In an era of global challenges, the ambassador stressed the importance of multilateralism and solidarity among Global South countries, reinforcing the strategic partnership between Africa and China as they work together toward a shared future.
