Xiaomi has announced plans to launch its new self-developed smartphone chip, the Xuanjie O1 (Xring O1), signaling its return to in-house chip development. If successfully implemented in its flagship smartphones, it would mark a major milestone since the company first entered the SoC space in 2017 with the Surge S1.
Xiaomi President Lu Weibing called the Xring O1 a “pivotal milestone” in the company’s semiconductor journey and noted that it will be used in several products beyond smartphones, though details remain limited.
The announcement coincided with Xiaomi’s 15th anniversary celebration and followed a teaser from CEO Lei Jun. Xiaomi initially struggled with its first chip, the Surge S1, but later focused on specialized chips before reviving core chip efforts with the Xring O1.
Lu also mentioned that Xiaomi will reveal more about its second electric vehicle, the YU7 SUV, later this month.
