Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi chaired a trilateral meeting in Beijing with Afghan Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi and Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar. The informal gathering aimed to strengthen cooperation and regional stability among the three nations. The ministers had a cordial and in-depth discussion on enhancing the potential of the trilateral mechanism and advancing mutually beneficial collaboration. Wang Yi outlined seven key outcomes of the meeting.
He first emphasized the importance of building political mutual trust and promoting good-neighborly relations. China reaffirmed its support for Afghanistan and Pakistan in choosing development paths suited to their national conditions while safeguarding their sovereignty, security, and dignity. Second, Wang called for reviving the China-Afghanistan-Pakistan Foreign Ministers’ Dialogue and proposed holding its sixth round in Kabul soon. Third, he highlighted the need to boost diplomatic ties, noting that Afghanistan and Pakistan agreed in principle to exchange ambassadors, a move welcomed and supported by China.
Fourth, Wang advocated for expanding Belt and Road cooperation, particularly by extending the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor into Afghanistan and improving regional connectivity. Fifth, he stressed the importance of deepening practical cooperation, including supporting Afghanistan’s reconstruction, expanding trade, and enhancing the country’s development capacity. Sixth, he called for unified efforts to combat terrorism, improve law enforcement cooperation, and resist external interference in regional affairs. Lastly, Wang underscored the need to maintain regional peace and stability to create a favorable environment for development and revitalization. All three countries expressed strong interest in deepening cooperation through this trilateral framework.
