Chinese tennis player Zhang Zhizhen made history by becoming the first Chinese player to reach the quarter-finals of an ATP Masters 1000 event after beating American player Taylor Fritz in the Madrid Open. Zhang, ranked world No. 99, saved three match points in a tie-break to win 3-6, 7-6 (7/5), 7-6 (10/8) against world No. 10 Fritz. He will face Russian player Aslan Karatsev in the quarter-finals. If Zhang defeats Karatsev, he is projected to become the highest-ranked Chinese man in history, surpassing Wu Yibing who reached world No. 55 earlier this year.
