UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has welcomed the safe temporary relocation of hundreds of UN staff members and their dependents from Sudan amid ongoing deadly clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces. The UN has around 4,000 staff in Sudan, including 800 international staff. Guterres has called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the evacuation of civilians from areas affected by the fighting. According to Sudan’s health ministry, the clashes have so far claimed the lives of over 424 people and left 3,730 others wounded.
