TikTok has announced that it now has 150 million monthly active users in the U.S., up from the 100 million it reported in 2020. This announcement comes ahead of CEO Chew Shou Zi’s testimony before the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee. Despite its growing user base, TikTok is facing increased pressure in Washington, including calls to ban the app over concerns about its handling of U.S. user data. Last week, the Biden administration demanded that TikTok’s Chinese owners divest their stake in the app or face a U.S. ban, and six more U.S. senators have backed a bipartisan legislation to give the president new powers to ban the app on national security grounds.
