Qatar and Bahrain have announced that they will restore diplomatic ties after a more than two-year-long boycott of Qatar by Arab countries was lifted earlier this year. The decision was made at the second meeting of the Bahraini-Qatari Follow-up Committee, held at the headquarters of the GCC General Secretariat in the Saudi capital. The Arab boycott of Qatar in 2017 centered on its support for Islamist movements and ties with Iran and Turkey. Although Saudi Arabia has been leading efforts to rebuild ties with Qatar, Bahrain has had deep concerns about Qatar’s relations with Iran and territorial disputes.
