Police arrest suspect in fatal mass shooting at Atlanta medical center

A former US Coast Guardsman, Deion Patterson, 24, has been arrested by the police for allegedly killing one woman and wounding four others in a shooting at a medical building in Atlanta. The shooting took place on Wednesday, and the suspect was taken into custody after an undercover police officer spotted him in suburban Cobb County. The motive behind the shooting is still under investigation. The hospital where the incident occurred will remain closed, and all patient appointments have been canceled. The shooting is the latest act of gun violence in what has become a “national epidemic of gun violence.” So far in 2023, 190 mass shootings have taken place in the United States, and over 14,200 people have lost their lives due to gun violence.
