NASA’s Curiosity Mars rover has captured images of sun rays shining through clouds at sunset on February 2, marking the first-time crepuscular rays have been viewed so clearly on Mars.
The rover also captured a set of colorful clouds shaped like a feather on January 27, creating a rainbow-like display called iridescence when illuminated by sunlight. Both images were captured as panoramas, stitched together from 28 images, and processed to emphasize highlights. Curiosity is the largest and most capable rover ever sent to Mars, launched on November 26, 2011 and landed on Mars on August 5, 2012.
