Iranian nuclear chief Mohammad Eslami has stated that negotiations between Tehran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are progressing, according to the semi-official Tasnim news agency. Eslami made the comments on the sidelines of a cabinet meeting, indicating that technical and expert delegations from both sides are in close contact and provide daily reports on the negotiations. The results of the talks will be disclosed at the appropriate time, Eslami added. The IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi paid a two-day visit to Tehran in March to address issues concerning Iran’s nuclear program, which included concerns over the country’s uranium enrichment levels and non-cooperation with an investigation into traces of uranium at three undeclared sites. Talks on reviving the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) began in April 2021 in Vienna but have yet to produce a breakthrough. The JCPOA was signed by Iran with world powers in 2015, however, the United States withdrew from the agreement in 2018 and reimposed sanctions on Tehran, leading to Iran reducing its nuclear commitments.
