Opposition politicians and members of Marlene Schiappa’s own party have criticized the French junior minister after she posed for Playboy magazine. The magazine’s upcoming issue will feature Schiappa wearing a white dress for a centerpiece article, a decision she has defended on feminist grounds. However, Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne is said to have expressed her displeasure to Schiappa about the article. The story comes at a time when the French government is under intense pressure due to public anger over President Emmanuel Macron’s unpopular pension reforms. In response to the article, Greens MP and women’s rights activist Sandrine Rousseau criticized the decision, arguing that while women’s bodies should be celebrated, the social context of the current situation in France should be taken into account.
