The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) has set up a task force to develop a common policy on privacy rules for artificial intelligence (AI), following concerns expressed by experts, governments, and data protection authorities about the rapid adoption of AI products such as ChatGPT. The move comes after Italy took unilateral action against the service last month and Germany indicated that it could follow suit. The task force will seek to promote cooperation and information exchange between data protection authorities on possible enforcement actions. The EDPB oversees data protection rules across the EU and is made up of national watchdogs.
