On Tuesday, during a visit to Belfast, Chinese Ambassador to Britain, Zheng Zeguang, called on the UK to refrain from overstretching and misusing the idea of national security to unjustly suppress Chinese companies. He made these comments to journalists when questioned about the UK’s decision to ban TikTok from government electronic devices on March 16th.
“We firmly denounce the UK’s concoction of pretexts to oppress Chinese businesses. The Chinese government protects data and information security within the limits of the law,” he cautioned, adding that political maneuvering is futile and will ultimately lead to negative consequences.
