The 13th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) opened on Saturday in Beijing with Shen Haixiong, the President of China Media Group (CMG) and Chairman of the 13th BJIFF Organizing Committee, delivering the opening speech. In his speech, Shen emphasized the importance of embracing new technology and seizing new opportunities in the film industry. Mo Gaoyi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Beijing Municipal Committee, also delivered a speech, highlighting Beijing’s position as the cultural center of China and the birthplace of Chinese cinema.
This year’s festival received a record high of 1,488 entries from 93 countries and regions for the Tiantan Award, with foreign films accounting for over 80 percent of the entries. The festival will host a range of activities, including the “Tiantan Award” ceremony, screenings, forums, and a college student film festival, with 15 films competing for the Tiantan Award. The winners will be announced at the closing ceremony on April 29.
