Law-enforcement agencies from China, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand have teamed up for the 128th Mekong River joint patrol, aimed at combatting cross-border crimes and ensuring safety and stability along the river. Seven vessels have been deployed for the four-day and three-night operation, departing from ports in China, Laos, and Myanmar. The Mekong River, also known as the Lancang River in China, is a crucial waterway for cross-border shipping. Since December 2011, the four countries have been conducting joint patrols on the river, and in 2022, they carried out 12 joint patrols, deploying over 200 ships and 2,700 law-enforcement personnel.
