Brazil’s Bolsonaro to be subpoenaed in $3.2 million jewelry probe

Former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro will be called to testify in the investigation into allegations that he and his wife attempted to illegally import $3.2 million worth of jewelry gifted to them by the Saudi Arabian government into Brazil.

Brazilian federal police and tax authority have both opened investigations, and Bolsonaro has denied any wrongdoing.

Government officials are forbidden from accepting high value gifts, and Brazilian citizens are required to declare anything they bring into the country valued over $1000.
